About

Professor Watson

The word “philosophy” is a conjunction of two Greek words. One means “brotherly love” and the other means “wisdom.” So “philosophy” literally means “love of wisdom.” It is not an easy field of study, but it is rewarding, and its rewards extend to every aspect of life. It can be immanently practical and dizzyingly abstract. But with a little effort, a lot of reading, and some good, informed discussion,  anyone can be a competent philosopher.

This site is designed for students taking my philosophy courses. The materials on your syllabus that do not appear in your textbook can be found here under the page corresponding to your course. Let me know if you have any questions or have trouble downloading documents.

Here’s to an examined life!
